We head out the Monasterevin Road for about 2km, then take a right turn at Bert, which brings us up over a narrow railway bridge and through beautiful countryside. There is a left turn at the end of this short stretch of road, where we continue to enjoy lovely views across the wide open fields. The road narrows to a single lane just before we arrive at the main Nurney to Athy Road. We will need to yield here and beware of oncoming traffic.
We will cross the Nurney Road and then the Dublin Road as we continue on quiet* country roads around the outskirts of Athy. (*with the exception of the odd dog barking as we cycle past!).
At the T junction we will join the N78, turning right to head back towards Athy. There is a generous hard shoulder along this road, so you do not need to fear being in the way of traffic. Again there is beautiful scenery to be enjoyed along this road for the final few kms of this ride.
Upon reaching the roundabout we will take the first exit and continue on to Emily Square. We can stop for a coffee here or take a right at the lights to head back to the Applegreen to have a cuppa there! Decisions, Decisions!
I am an enthusiastic leisure cyclist who loves getting out in the fresh air and exploring the countryside on my bike. I would like to encourage cyclists of all abilities to join me on a social spin where nobody gets left behind.
