We meet for today’s spin at the entrance to the car park on R741 (Old Dublin Road) at The Frying Irishman/Ballyelland Pottery in Castlebridge opposite Wexford Block. Most of this cycle is on Euro Velo Routes, on quiet country roads and is around 16 kms.
We leave the car park, turning left onto the R741 and cycle north for about 5.5km, as far as Ballyfarnogue. Here we turn left and cycle along a quiet country road for 3.5kms to Ballylucas.
At Ballylucas Cross, we take a left, heading for The Airfield Road which is a distance of 3.5kms. After about half a kilometre we turn right cycling through Ballysilla and Clonasheeoge. The Crossabeg GAA Pitch is on our right hand side. At the end of this road, we turn left and continue through Garyvarren turning left on to The Airfield Road.
From here, to Castlebridge is a distance of 3.5kms. The views of the Forth Mountain, and the sea at Rosslare are very good on a clear day. At the end of the Airfield Road, we turn right and spin back down the hill through Ballyboggan, to the village of Castlebridge.
At the Post Office we must stop, and then go left for 200m as far as the R741 where we must stop again. We take a left here and pull into the car park where we started. The full circle is around 16 kms.
Anyone who wishes can get a coffee in The Frying Irishman and relax!
I live in Castlebridge in Co. Wexford and I am a keen leisure cyclist. I try to get out as often as possible and enjoy cycling mostly within my own locality. I would love to see more people out on their bikes, taking advantage of all the health and social benefits that cycling has to offer.
Today was my first Axa Spin and everything went perfectly. We had great weather and a very sociable chat and cuppa at the end. All in all a great success and looking forward to my next spin on June 17th.
