Depart Blackrock Pier (opp Pronto Coffee ) on Castle rd. heading in the direction of Blackrock Castle, where we join the Greenway/Blueway with the River Lee on our left. Staying on this route for about 4km, we join the old Cork/Crosshaven railway route Greenway. Approx 750 mts on, we join the Rochestown/Passage West rd. at the junction of the R610 and L 2474. We travel on this road for about 750mtrs and rejoin the Greenway at Hop Island car park. We stay on the Greenway with the Lee and Lough Mahon on our right until the centre of Passage West where we rejoin the R610 at Victoria Dockyard, for a kilometre to Glenbrook. Here we take the Glenbrook/Carrigaloe Cross River Ferry to Carrigaloe on the island of Cobh. Leaving the Ferry we travel on the R624 to the town of Cobh with scenic views of the lower harbour and Haulbowline Naval Base on our right.

Arriving in Cobh, we will stop at JFK memorial park for a well earned coffee or tea (a coffee wagon with good tea/coffee and friendly service is located in the park). Our coffee and chat can be enjoyed looking out on to the Harbour and Spike Island. Suitably refreshed, we return to the Ferry crossing and return the way we came back to Blackrock Pier. If time allows, we can avail of another tea or coffee at Pronto Coffee, where I'm led to believe the coffee is excellent.

I’m an enthusiastic leisure cyclist keen to see more people cycling in my area. I have a new found love of cycling greenways and now roads thanks to being a past participant of AXA Community Bike Rides near and far.

A successful bike ride enjoyed by all, with some new faces on a sunny morning with a relaxed and pleasant halfway stop for coffee at the prominade. We met some nice people along the route who kindly took our photos in front of the navy ship.
