A nice flat looped route, which includes a 6.2km stretch along the Grand Canal Towpath. We will head out the main road, cycling through Kilberry and turn left after the little bridge at Cloney. This road leads us down to the picturesque village of Vicarstown and the Grand Canal. We can stop here briefly to take in the scenery and a take a few photo's. At this point we will loop back towards Athy on the canal towpath and might catch a glimpse of a heron or two. I ask that you be aware of pedestrians and other road users along this narrow stretch. Although we have the right of way at the end of the towpath, please be wary of traffic coming over the bridge from your right.
Taking the next left after the end of the towpath, we will cross the River Barrow and head up to the end of this road to rejoin the main Athy to Monasterevin Road. We will filter to the right on approach to this junction come to a complete stop. Crossing the road and turning right when it is safe to do so. We will then be on the final stretch and can look forward to a nice cuppa and a chat back at Applegreen.
*Don't forget money for a cuppa*
