We set off on the first 10km of our cycle (with a few little drags) to Maganey, at the 3 counties we take the left and turn up the steep hill over the bridge. Be warned – take the gears off and get ready to stand and climb for about 270 metres!
The climb continues at a much gentler pace up Stanley’s Cross Hill for a further 1.8km. As we travel towards Castledermot the road gets flatter and we get to enjoy views out over the beautiful Kildare countryside. We take the left turn at the GAA club – as we near our coffee stop at Castledermot.
The second half of our cycle (15km) is a lot flatter and much more pleasant – there is a gentle climb up over Mullaghreelan before arriving at the picturesque village of Kilkea (might take this opportunity to get a few nice photos of the group).
Then onwards to Athy for the last 9km of our bike ride. Shortly after Kilkea there is another short drag as we follow the road around to the left. We take a left at the junction at Gallowshill to bring us back towards the town centre.
Please take care on this road back into town, it is very busy and there are a number of traffic lights and junctions on the road. All rules of the road must be obeyed and consideration shown for other road users.
