Description

This is the first in a series of AXA Community Bike Rides in Clarinbridge. We are going to start out with an easy going spin over mostly flat terrain. Leaving from Scoil Mhuire, Clarinbridge, we are going to head south through Kilcolgan and on to Ardrahan. In Ardrahan, we will turn right towards Kinvara. About 3.5km down this road, we will again turn right towards Ballinderreen which will take us through some very scenic countryside on quiet roads.

Once we arrive in Ballinderreen, depending on how we are doing, we will either stop at the Applegreen Service Station in Ballinderreen or continue on to Kilcolgan and stop at Keane's Garden Centre for a well earned cup of coffee and a slice of something nice!  Don't forget to bring some money for the coffee shop.

After the coffee break, we will get back on the bikes for the short journey back to Clarinbridge.

About

I've been cycling for over 20 years both individually and as part of a cycling club. I've really enjoyed cycling in a group, both the exercise and the social side. I'd like to help others in the locality to get out on their bikes and get that enjoyment as well. Nothing too strenuous and guaranteed to include some decent coffee stops along the way!

It was a cold start for the very first Clarinbridge AXA Community Bike Ride but the roads were dry and frost-free. Given the low temperatures of around 1 degree, it was great to see that the participants came along and were keen to go ahead with the spin.

We set out shortly after 9:30 from Clarinbridge and cycled out to Ardrahan. There we turned right towards Kinvara, turning right again towards Ballinderreen a few km down the road. When we got to Ballinderreen, we stopped at the Applegreen for a well-deserved cup of coffee to thaw out the hands and have a good chat. Once we had warmed up again, we continued on back to Clarinbridge.

In total we did 24.5km at an average speed of 19 km/hr. Feedback from the group was that the speed and distance were good and want to continue at that level. Looking forward to the next cycle in 2 weeks time and getting a few more to join. Spread the word!
