This is an easy spin which takes us around the outskirts of Athy. Meeting at Applegreen, we cycle out the Monasterevin Road to Bert Cross. Here we turn right and continue on over the railway bridge to the next T junction.
Taking a left turn here, we shortly arrive at a section of road which narrows to one lane. We will have to give way to oncoming traffic before proceeding with caution. Shortly after this we take the next left turn towards Nurney.
The next right turn will bring us along the road to the bottom of the Moat of Ardscull (we won’t climb the Moat – unless you really want to). From here we take a right on the R418 back towards Athy. This is a very busy road, take care getting across it.
At the next cross roads, we take a left onto a quiet back road; t’s narrow and windy and has a few barking dogs living along it. They do like to kick up a bit of a fuss when you pass but they have never done me any harm! After a few more kms we arrive back onto the Athy Link Road with its wide hard shoulder, so you are not competing with traffic.
Homeward bound and last few kilometres before deciding where to for coffee and cake!
