Our cycle starts along the main street in Oranmore, just outside Lidl. We start out by taking the junction for the N67 and turning left. At the Oranmore Community Centre roundabout, we take the 2nd exit to bring us along the dual carriageway. At the roundabout at the Maldron hotel, we will take the 3rd exit towards Claregalway. At Carnmore Cross/Galway Airport, we turn right and travel along the Carnmore road for about 5km. We turn left just after Egan’s pub to bring us up past Cregmore golf club. At the end of this road, we turn left to bring us to the junction with the Tuam road where we turn left again to bring us into Claregalway and our coffee stop at Treat Café, having completed 21km. Don't forget to bring some money for coffee and cake and don’t forget to bring a face mask.
After the coffee stop, we will travel back from Claregalway to Oranmore. There is a bit of a climb on this road as we leave Claregalway. When we get to the roundabout at the Maldron hotel, we will take the 2nd exit, bringing us into Oranmore village where we turn left and travel through the village to our finish at Lidl for a total distance of just over 30km.

I've been cycling for over 20 years both individually and as part of a cycling club. I've really enjoyed cycling in a group, both the exercise and the social side. I'd like to help others in the locality to get out on their bikes and get that enjoyment as well. Nothing too strenuous and guaranteed to include some decent coffee stops along the way!
The sun gods shone kindly on us today delivering a sunny and warm early October day for our first spin from Oranmore. The roads were quite busy along this route which made the spin a bit more challenging than usual given the lack of a hard shoulder for large parts of the spin. However, the group stuck well together and everyone got a turn at the front as we cycled into the wind.
When we arrived into Treat Cafe in Claregalway we were disappointed to see that all of the outside tables were full. However, the staff were very obliging and brought out another table for us so that we could enjoy coffe and scones in the glorious sunshine. It felt a bit like a foreign holiday so we had a fairly extended coffee break. Great option for a coffee stop.
After the break we returned back to Oranmore navigating the long climb out of Claregalway successfully along the way.
Overall stats for the spin:
Average speed: 17.4 km/hr
Cycling duration: 1 hr 43 mins
Overall duration: 2 hr 50 mins
