This week we will ride the recently opened Suir Blueway from Clonmel to Carrick-on-Suir and back. Starting at the Gashouse Bridge in Clonmel, we will take the Blueway path running alongside the river Suir via Kilsheelan and on to Carrick-on-Suir where we will stop for a coffee break before heading back to Clonmel.
I joined the Cashel Rock Pedallers in 2014. Since then I built up my distances, from an initial 5km in 2016, completing a 170km on the 2012 Olympics Road Race Course! I have also completed many more Sportives, including all four Great Dublin Bike Rides. If I can do it at nearly 70, so can you!
Leaving an overcast, but balmy, Clonmel we set off on another AXA Community Bike Ride on the Suir Blueway on Sunday morning. Along the pathway we had intermittent stops to take in the wildlife, scenic views across to the Comeragh Mountains, well maintained farmland and anglers in water and boats chasing down the elusive trout in the crystal clear waters of the river Suir.
All the time meeting walkers, lone cyclists and family groups enjoying this gem of a facility in South Tipperary - much of it now with fresh tarmacadam with just a couple of hundred meters left to be completed by Tipperary County Council.
Arriving in Carrick-on-Suir it was time for a relaxing coffee before riding back to Clonmel.
This beautiful route is one to savour and will deffinately feature in future AXA Community Bike Rides.
