A short, pleasant bike ride in north county Dublin, albeit with one challenging hill climb, but don't worry, we only go as fast as our slowest rider (it could very easily be me!) and nobody gets left behind. Meet inside the gate at North Street Business Park (please don't block the entrance) , Swords, County Dublin. At Swords Fire Station we turn right and proceed north up the Balheary Road and very soon we leave the hustle and bustle of the town. Quiet, country roads for the most part, as we meander around the fields, past Ballyboughal airfield and up towards the townlands of Thomondstown and Colecot (I never heard of them either). As well as some fine North County views. The only other thing to look out for are tractors, mud and perhaps some fallen twigs on the road. Crossing over the M1 then across the old N1, the countryside appears to open up, less trees, and we can take in some fine views. One view in particular is that of the Nags Head, a 'gentle' but slow ascent which lies ahead of us. Once you reach the masts, you're at the top and it's all downhill from there. In Ballyboughal village, we can stop at The Brew for some refreshments before continuing south towards Roganstown, turning left past Balheary Church and very quickly back to our start/finish point.
Cycling 5 years in Fingal & a few holidays across Europe - most recently the Moselle wine valley & Bavarian Brewery Bike tour! In 2018, I took up the Cycling Ireland #2828challenge which led me to joining a club and completing a handful of sportives over the last year. Still learning and still enjoying the leisurely aspect whilst sharing a common interest, with new friends, plenty of coffee, cake and ice-cream!
Just the three of us, but a very enjoyable, sociable and do-able spin. So many other groups out running, walking and cycling. Lovely to see folk enjoying the great outdoors, right on your doorstep!
