This is an easy cycle on mostly level roads.
We meet at the entrance to the car park on R741 (Old Dublin Road) at The Frying Irishman/Ballyelland Pottery in Castlebridge opposite Wexford Block.
We cycle north on R741 for about 6kms as far as Ballyfarnogue Cross, passing Garrylough Water Mill along the way. We turn right at Ballyfarnogue. This quiet road takes us to Screen village. We continue through Screen and cycle for 4kms to Curracloe. There are some nice views of the sea as we spin down the hill to Curracloe.
We stop at the T-Junction and here we turn right and cycle for approx. 5kms as far as the main road at Fahey’s Cross. This road is a section of the Wexford Cycle Hub. We stop at Fahey’s Cross, and as we are turning right onto a busy main road, we need to take extra care. Then crossing the road, we cycle back into Castlebridge which is about 1.5kms.
If anyone wants a coffee we can have one at The Frying Irishman where outside seating and toilets are available.
I live in Castlebridge in Co. Wexford and I am a keen leisure cyclist. I try to get out as often as possible and enjoy cycling mostly within my own locality. I would love to see more people out on their bikes, taking advantage of all the health and social benefits that cycling has to offer.
